Chapter One
Lost to me

The garage door started into motion, the running motor made a small hum in the air as Tom reached down for his bike helmet. It was about mid-day and a pretty typical day for spring and with the fresh mountain air, there was a crisp feeling, which made the days more comforting then living in an active city.
Tom reached down after clipping in his helmet and took the handle of his bike, walking it out onto the pavement. He took a slight breath of relief and made one quick motion of shoving off of the ground as he began to peddle away down the road.
As he was riding, thoughts started coming into his brain quicker then he had hoped they would. He started to think about what had happened the night before. He was sitting as his desk, surfing the net. The only difference was what he was looking up. Tom was an above average guy, 18 years old, good marks in school, a good guy, a respectable athlete but for some reason, for some unknown reason, he had this desire to be young again, to be care free from responsibilities. It was because of this that he had become interested in looking into certain websites where adults role-played where they where a lot younger, but what really caught his attention was something he had never heard of before, babyfurs. While he was looking at certain web pages, his mother walked into the room, getting a very good look at exactly just what it was her son was looking at. After the moment of total silence and awkward movements, what she had just seen sunk in and she immediately demanded that Tom explained himself. Tom tried to defend himself as best as he could, but his mother began yelling at him saying that she couldn’t believe her son was like this. After the worst night of his life, Tom needed to get out into the open and clear his mind, so he left early in the morning for a ride down some mountain paths.

Riding deep into the woods, Tom found himself so lost inside of his own head, he didn’t want to stop biking. He wanted to get as far away from his house as he could and as fast as possible. Even when he came to a sign that clearly said “Path Closed”, he kept going deeper and deeper into the woods if only to get another foot away from his house. Suddenly, Tom was quickly brought back into reality when his tire hit into a hole sending him face first over his handlebars into the ground. It took a few seconds for him to recover and look around to realize that he didn’t have a clue just where he was. After catching his breath, he found that he wasn’t even on an actual path, he had been biking in a random direction and now that’s exactly where he was, a random location.

As Tom finished looking around a little, he found himself with only one word floating through his mind, “Shit”. He knew he was lost but he wasn’t that worried. He figured that he would leave his bike where it was, due to the fact that is was now a little bend out of shape, find a path and get back home where he would come back for his bike later. Looking at the ground, Tom tried to guess the best direction from where he had come. He started walking in what seemed like a straight line for nearly half and hour when he decided that he needed to sit down and think about where he was. He found a tossed down tree and took a seat on it, unclipping the helmet and whipping the sweat from his forehead. He looked down at the ground for a second and then immediately shot his head upwards to the sky where he stayed looking for a few minutes. Giving up at the moment, Tom closed his eyes and began thinking about how his mom would react to him being missing in the morning. As Tom lifted himself off of the tree to keep going, something moved out of the corner of his eyes. He cocked his head instinctively to where he was the movement and squinted into the thick trees and bushes.

“Hello? Is…is anyone there,” he cried out into the distance only to be meet with silence.

After a few seconds, he figured it was just his imagination, but when he turned back around, he was greeted with someone standing right in front of him.

“Holy hell!” Where the only words that escaped Tom’s lips as he stumbled backwards, falling over the tree. After catching his breath, he quickly regained his composure and picked himself up off of the ground. After taking a few more quick breaths, Tom started to look at the stranger in from of him. She was probably around 20 years old, great figure, brunette, and smiling like an idiot. After quickly gaining his wits, Tom asked the only think that made sense, “Who are you?”

The girl looked at Tom and began smiling even wider and extender her hand for a handshake while saying “Hi, I’m Naomi. I saw you coming into the woods and figured you were lost.”

After a quick second, Tom reluctantly shook her hand out of gesture. “Um, that’s okay. I’m really not that lost, I just need to find the path back out these woods. I’ve never been this far in before and I wasn’t really paying attention.”

With a look of slight shock, Naomi looked at Tom with a slightly tilted head. “Why weren’t you paying attention?”

“It was just something I had on my mind. I was having some problems at home, and I wasn’t thinking…I mean I was thinking but not about…biking because of my mom and…” Tom stopped himself as he noticed that Namoi was giggling to herself. “Oh, and what’s so funny?”

“Ha ha, you are!” Naomi said as she began blushing a little.

Tom was a little taken back by all of this and began wondering if this girl was playing with a full deck of cards. “Look, I’d just really appreciate it if you could direct me out of these woods. I need to get back to reality.”

Namoi slowly stopped laughing and looked at Tom. “Why do you want to leave? The woods are so much better then the real world. Here you can do anything you want.”

Now Tom was convinced that his person in front of him was a little off her rocker, but she seemed harmless enough and decided to play along, if only to be able to get directions out of the woods.

“Oh really? Anything I want hey?”

“Absolutely!” Naomi began to beam with vibrancy. “These woods are magic. They can make any dream you want come true. All you have to do is ask the wood spirits.”

“Oh is that so?” Tom was starting to enjoy this company as he played along with her game. “And where might I find one of there wood spirits?” he asked playfully, making some mocking gesture with his hands in the air.

Namoi started to slowly walk towards Tom. Once they were almost nose-to-nose, she looked right into his eyes. “You looking at one.”

Tom had to keep himself from keeping his laughter down to a dull roar. “Ha ha ha! Ya right. Look, I appreciate all this “magic” and you have a great imagination, but I really need to get home so could you please just tell me the way out?

Namoi lowered her eyebrows and started to pout. “Why don’t you believe me? I swear I’m a wood spirit. Go ahead, make a wish, anything.”

Starting to get a little frustrated with this whole situation, Tom looked her in the eyes. “If I make a wish, will you tell me the way out?”

Hearing this, Namoi instantly began smiling again. “Deal!”

Tom cleared his throat, and made a fake cough as if he was about to give an address to the UN. “Oh mighty and whimsical wood Spirit Namoi. I wish that I could see what it is like to live as a babyfur.” Immediately after making his wish, he instantly began wondering what had made him make this as a wish. After thinking about it for a second, he decided that it wouldn’t matter anyways. He’s never seen this girl before and chances are he was never going to again.

Namoi smiled as she closed her eyes as she began slowly lifting her arms into the sky. A small breeze came through the opening where they stood, swaying the leaves as it passed through the woods. After this had happened, Namoi dropped her arms limp against her side and gradually opened her eyes; She took a deep breath and let her shoulders relax. She turned her head to the left. “Follow through those trees for about 5 minutes and you’ll come to the path that will lead you out of here.”

Tom glanced at Namoi with a puzzled look, and started to make his way towards where she was looking. He wasn’t really to sure just what to say right now, but all he knew was that he wanted to get out of these woods pronto. As he started to leave the clearing, he took once last glimps over his shoulder at Namoi, who softly waved her hand goodbye back at Tom. Disinclined, Tom waved back giving an awkward smile in return. He turned around and began walking through the woods.

After about five minutes, Tom walked onto a path just where Namoi had said it would be. “Well thank goodness she wasn’t completely crazy” Tom thought to himself as he started to walk down the trail. As he was walking, he gradually started to pick up his pace. Suddenly, he started to feel kind of sick.

Chapter Two
New Beginnings

Tom knew something wasn’t right as he clenched his stomach in aching pain. He knew he needed to stop and catch his breath but he just wanted out of the forest. He didn’t know where he was or where he was going, he just needed out. Suddenly he toppled over, falling on his knees from sudden surges of pain trough his body like an electric shock. He started breathing to quickly, hyperventilating and getting a head rush. As sweat started to ream down his forehead, he closed his eyes and tightened his teeth together, fighting the stinging in his gut. Then he pain suddenly started to ease off quickly in a cool rush, leaving Tom gasping for air as he started to gain more of his senses back. Once most of the aches and pains where gone, Tom fell from his hands and knees onto his back, hitting the dirt floor with a dull thud and closed his eyes as he steadied his breathing.

As he was lying on the dirt, the sun started to creep it’s way through his eyelids so Tom lifted his arms to keep the sun out of his eyes. He took one last breath, filling himself with some energy and slowly opened his eyes. Being slightly blinded by the sun, Tom lifted his back off the ground and found himself yawning and stretched out a little. As Tom started to lift himself off the ground, he began to brush the dirt off of his legs, and that’s when he noticed his arms. The hair on his arms was starting to turn black in some places, and white in others. Puzzled, Tom ran his other hand over the hair and noticed it was also a lot more coarse and thick then it had been before, almost fur like. Suddenly, the pain came back; flowing threw his whole body as he felt slight numbness starting to cover his body. Panicked, Tom looked down to his legs and noticed they were also starting to grow fur. Tom blankly looked down at himself and quickly shut his eyes, scrunching them up hoping that when they opened, he would be back to normal and that all of this was just some delusion, but as he opened his eyes the fur was still there and was noticeably growing and thickening.

“What the hell is going on? What the HELL is happening???” Tom started to pull at the fur but couldn’t quite get at it. His hands were starting to shorten and turn into paws. In a panic, Tom threw off his shoes and noticed that is feet were doing the exact same thing. He started to become extremely frightened as he noticed that he could see his own nose start to grow and turn into a muzzle in front of his eyes. Tom quickly threw his hands to his face and felt his ears starting to grow and have a point to them.

“No no no…this can’t be happening…” Tom started to feel himself getting light headed as he started to stagger and sway on his feet. Tom fell against a tree and put out his now paws to save himself when he felt something growing from his backside.

“Oh god please no” Thru the pain, Tom looked over his shoulder and saw a tail coming out from between his shirt and shorts. “I’m turning into an animal!”

Reaching out and grabbing his own tail, Tom noticed that everything around seemed to be growing until it finally hit him. “I’m shrinking!” Tom started to grasp for air as the felt himself shrink on the spot. The fur was now completely covering his body, and his hands and feet were now fully turned into paws.

“Help! Is anyone there?” Tom barely recognized his own voice as he shouted into the distance. It sounded higher, more childish. “I need help!”

Tom fell onto the ground and curled into the fetal position, tears starting to flow. Everything was changing, and he was lost in the forest and his own body. Then just as quickly as it had started, the pain had stopped, leaving Tom on the floor of the earth.

Quietly crying to himself, Tom slowly stood up off the ground. Whipping the tears from his eyes, he looked down at himself. Whatever he was, it wasn’t human anymore. He was covered in black and white fur from head to toe. He was much to small for his shorts as he noticed that they had fallen to the ground around his ankles, and his t-shirt now completely covered his body from his head down to where it was touching the ground. He felt his head and noticed that he had two pointy ears on the very top of his head and his nose had completely grown out into a muzzle. He started to pat his body down feeling the warmth and the soft fluff of his fur. As Tom was quickly discovering his new body, he hadn’t notice the figure that had come up form behind him.

“There you are cutie.” Tom spun his head around to find himself looking up to find the source of the voice being an adult fox, gently smiling down at him with her hands on her hips.

“What…how are you?” Tom started to stutter.

“It’s me silly, Naomi.” She started to smile harder as she gently started to bend over to pick Tom up. “We need to get you home and changed.”

At the last second, Tom tried to dart away from Naomi but wasn’t quick enough as he was easily scooped him up and held in Naomi’s arms like a child, with his head facing over her shoulder.

“What are you doing??? Put me down!” Tom started to struggle in her arms to try to get free but to no avail, he wasn’t going anywhere.

“Sorry kiddo, no chance. Like I said, we need to get you home pronto.” She looked down at his and stated to beam. “You make a cute puppy.” She added with a little giggle.

As Naomi started walking down the trail, Tom was able to get a good look at her. She was a fox and looked to now be in her mid-twenties. She was wearing a white tank top and jeans. She seemed to have a slender figure and kept him in her arms without any difficulty. As the continued down the path, Tom noticed that the forest was ending. He turned his head around from Naomi’s shoulder and noticed that they were headed into a town.

“Where are we?” Tom looked around the town, darting his head from left to right, taking in all he could. The town looked a lot less modern with a quaint and gentle feeling to it. There were house along dirt roads, and paths everywhere. There were no cars, not even cement roads. The town itself looked like something out of the Hobbit. The houses were the only things that looked modern. As they entered the community Tom started to notice the most amazing thing about this town, there were no humans, everyone in the town was a furry. There were dogs and cats, birds, rabbits, horses and tons other.

Tom couldn’t believe his eyes, and even more so as they passed a store window and he caught a look at his reflection. He was a boarder collie pup with black fur covering his body except for a patch of white on his stomach, tips of his paws and the tip of one of his ears. Tom looked at himself in utter shock until Naomi broke the silence.

“See, I told you that you made a cute puppy.”

As they continued down the path, they came to a warm looking house. Naomi started to walk up the path and up to a wooden gate door. As she walked through the gate, she closed and locked it behind her as she started to walk up the path, turning to give a slight wave to her neighbor who happened to be a golden retriever.

“Morning Jason” Naomi called from over her side of the yard.

“Oh good morning Naomi.” Jason gave a polite wave as he smiled back. “Who’s that you have there?”

“Oh this is Tom, I’m going to be looking after him for a little while.”

“Well, if the little slugger gives you any trouble you just let me know.” Jason gave a slight laugh as he waved goodbye and turned to go inside his own house.

Coming out of his shock, Tom took a deep gulp and leaned up towards Naomi. “Please, what’s going on?”

Naomi stopped for a second and looked down at Tom a little confused. “I gave you your wish. You wanted to live like a babyfur and since you’re to young to look after yourself anymore, I’m going to look after you.” She gave his head a playful tussle as she continued up the path.

As they got to the door, Naomi shifted Tom from one arm to another and started to fish around inside of her jeans pockets for her keys.

“Where the heck are they?...Oh here we go.”

Naomi took the keys out of her pocket and placed the key into the doorknob and started to open the door.

Naomi took a second before walking inside.

“Well, here we are. Home sweet home.”
